In this somewhat less than exciting blog I will examine the adventures that I have in life, mostly in front of the televison, while eating dinner or in my perpetual quest to finish all of my dammed grading. I hate grading!!!

The Year of the Rat Reading 1: King David

A few years ago I went to the Holy Lands. Wanted to go back and before I did I bought this book. It has taken me forever to read it. I liked it though. It tells the story of David from shepherd to dying day. Actually, I guess I could have just read the Bible. But I still like reading books by the author, Jonathan Kirsch. His books deal with the Bible. I read his biography of Moses and "The Harlot by the side of the road." Mostly his books shock people, because they have never read the Bible and they always assume it is all full of goody goody stuff. Trust me it isn't. The Bible is a mixed bag of history, fable, tall tales, prophecies, poems and murder and incest. It is too amazingly fantastic and telling to be totally made up. That is why I like it. The Jews of old rocked! They were killing and fucking like no one else. All of them. Even the good ones. I guess that is why when I was little, I got a little Children's Bible. Noah had a ark (and walked around drunk unclothed). David had his slingshot (and was screwing someone else's wife). Moses gave us the Ten Commandments (and glowed in the dark). Sure Soloman didn't cut up that baby. He was too relaxed after banging all of his concubines. That's why it is still the world's most popular book. Read it sometime and find out.
Until then, enjoy the year of the Rat!!!
